Stephen Colbert - Answering Duty’s Call

By Bill | October 17, 2007 | Email This Post

If it seems the sun is shining a little brighter on America this morning, that’s merely because it is. I can’t think of a better way to start the day than spreading the news that Stephen Colbert has thrown his hat (presumably the same one he mentions during his “Tip of the Hat, Wag of the Finger” segment) into the ring for 2008. Here, at last, is a candidate with credentials.

Sure, some of the other hopefuls have actually lived right in the White House or been in the Senate for longer than Iraq has been a democracy, but who else has been a late night Comedy Central TV host for two solid years? (Actually, exactly two years as of tonight.) And that’s in addition to his self-sacrificing, Herculean efforts at bringing the truth to Stewart’s pinko-liberal crowd night after frustrating night before that. Pearls before swine, Stephen, pearls before Swine.

But all that is mere history. At long last, Stephen Colbert has embraced fate, has rented the limo and bought the corsage for his date with destiny. South Carolina, you can do no less. Stephen will be running as your favorite son; it is up to you to lead the country in uniting us all as one Colbert Nation.

If anyone missed Stephen’s historic announcement, it is preserved for posterity below:
