Ron Paul on the Tonight Show, October 30, 2007

Ron Paul appeared on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight. I’m typing a quick summary as I watch:
Familiar themes for anyone who’s followed Ron Paul: save money by reducing foreign spending, getting rid of the IRS, not policing the world. He leans toward “a flat tax… like zero” allowing people to keep their money instead of giving it to the government. Characterized Iraq as “a mistake” and “we didn’t go in properly” and is for getting the troops out as soon as possible; doesn’t believe that pulling out of Iraq would cause more harm than good, and thinks Iraq policy has made us more vulnerable to attack than we were before 9/11. Believes our greatest threat is not from an external force, but through the erosion of our civil liberties.
Paul said there there’s a “risk he will win,” but did say that he would consider any offers for a vice-Presidential position, which frankly surprised me.
I don’t know that Paul’s appearance was compelling enough to sway many voters in other camps, but it was nice to see him getting the national exposure. He’s come a long way so far… it’s fun to think about what the heck will happen if he actually wins New Hampshire?
