Paul’s Haul

By Bill | November 6, 2007 | Email This Post

Ron Paul’s web site is reporting that he raised “Over $3,800,000″ from more than 35,000 donations in a single day, November 5th, 2007. According to the AP, Paul’s selling himself short, as they’ve got the figure at $4.2 million. Paul’s campaign says that the top figure ever was $5.7 million for John Kerry on the day he accepted the Democratic nomination, while the same AP article reports that the top single-day figure of $6.2 million by Hillary Clinton. I’ve looked around the net and can’t verify that figure from another source.

Regardless, it’s reportedly more than Mitt Romney - aka Big Money’s - largest single day take, and particularly impressive when you consider that he only raised $5 million in the entire previous quarter, and that was up 114% from the quarter before that. Clearly, he’s a candidate still on the rise… and he’s yet to really have that one blockbuster moment or sound bite that could put him squarely on everybody’s television.

Paul’s web site has a banner that reads “$12 Million to Win! - In New Hampshire, Iowa, Michigan, South Carolina, and Nevada by December 31st.” A bold statement… money alone won’t carry the day, but neither can he win without it. His current total against that $12 million is just under $7.5. Based on yesterday’s results, his monetary goal seems attainable; I wonder if his political one is as well? One thing’s for sure: to the dismay of his opponents, he’s not going away.
