Hillary Backtracks in 3… 2… 1…

As you’ve heard by now, in a debate on October 30th debate, Hillary rather famously stammered on through a question about drivers licenses. In her defense, and this is the position her campaign is taking, she doesn’t come right out and say that she’s for giving them licenses, but neither does she say she’s against it (this behavior is the fundamental flaw in Senator Clinton’s campaign.) However, to my ears, and to a number of other observers, it certainly sounds like her unspoken position is that she’s for it. (”It makes a lot of sense” is as close as she gets.) You can judge for yourself by watching the clip here:

However, a poll has come out showing that 77% of American adults are opposed to the idea of giving licenses to illegal immigrants. If Hillary stays true to form, she will now issue a flurry of comments saying how she’s been against the idea all along. We’ll see.

November 14: Hold on, we have an update! Sure enough, Clinton has now said she “will not support driver’s licenses for undocumented people.” A backtrack, you say? Read more closely: you will notice that she still hasn’t said that she opposes licenses for illegal immigrants - “illegal” does not mean “undocumented” - so she still hasn’t answered the question. She’s managing to backtrack without backtracking, only one day before the next debate. Surely her opponents will call her to task for such a clumsy attempt at defusing the issue?
